Are you ready for the Super Bowl? Party rooms are being prepped, menus are being planned, and Swifties are getting their outfits ready. Chiefs and 49ers fans are psyched for the big showdown.
The halftime show with Usher and Reba is going to be spectacular. All this glitter and drama has fueled tons of excitement for the big game.
Super Bowl LVII is expected to draw a record-breaking audience this year thanks to the highly publicized romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce and also just being the Super Bowl. Of course, when you have a big game like this, you also have people placing a few “friendly wagers” between friends. While some are standard — who will win the game, will TayTay make an appearance alongside Usher at Halftime — others have absolutely nothing to do with who wins.
They’re called prop bets, and they’re big money.

What is a prop bet?
The American Gaming Association estimates that Americans will wager close to $23.1 billion on the Super Bowl this year, but many of those wagers won't be on who takes home the trophy. These side bets cover the minutiae of the game, things a casual sports fan would never even notice, and some of them won't have anything to do with football at all. Seemingly random wagers — will a bird fly into the game? How many celebs are there? What color is the Gatorade that’s dumped over the winning coach’s head? — spell big paydays for some unconventional gamblers.
A proposition bet, or prop bet, can cover everything from how many points will happen in a quarter, to a specific player's performance, to what sneakers a player is wearing. Prop bets can make games feel more exciting, allow fans to feel that they’re more involved in the game, and even be used to add humor to an intense rivalry.
30 unusual Super Bowl bets

Bottom line
Super Bowl LVIII is shaping up to be the most exciting Big Game yet, and it’s estimated that 110 million people will tune in. Whether it's for the sport, the commercials, the halftime show, or just to catch a glimpse of the world’s favorite pop star on the jumbotron, pretty much everyone will be watching and maybe making a few of those side bets. Prop bets might sound fun, but it’s still gambling so only wager what you're willing to lose.
