Pay Zero Interest Until 2019 With These Credit Cards

Stop wasting money on interest fees!

If you’re carrying a balance on one or more credit cards, chances are you’re paying interest fees each month. These fees may not seem like such a big deal right now, but over time they can add up to $100s or even $1000s of dollars. Why not have 0% APR on your card balances, at least until 2019?

Luckily, there actually is a way, and you’re only a few steps from taking advantage of it! By signing up for a card with a long 0% introductory APR, you can essentially get a free loan to pay down your balance without spending a dime on interest.

How It Works

Using 0% intro rates to your benefit sounds more complicated than it is.

If you have an existing balance on other credit cards, transfer those balances to a new card and you won't accrue interest on the transferred balance during the introductory 0% APR period - which can be as long as 21 months!

The first step is to learn which cards offer the longest 0% intro APR with the most competitive features. We’ve done the research for you and found the best options!

Here’s our list of the 5 best 0% intro APR cards, or "balance transfer" (BT) cards.

Citi Simplicity®

Credit needed: Good, Excellent (690-850)

With an incredible 21-month 0% intro APR period on purchases and balance transfers, the Citi Simplicity® Card will take you all the way to 2019 without ever needing to pay a cent in interest. Amazing, right?

On top of that, there are no late fees, no annual fee, and no penalty rates imposed. So if you’re accidentally late making a payment, you won’t be penalized with a higher interest rate after the 0% introductory APR is over.

There is a 3% balance transfer fee (dang), but with such a long intro APR period, it may be worthwhile to transfer a balance to this card.

We really like this card because - just as the name implies - it’s simple to use, offers an ultra-long 21-month 0% intro APR, and has no annual fee.

Citi® Diamond Preferred®

Credit needed: Good, Excellent (690-850)

The Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card also offers an amazing 21-month 0% intro APR on balance transfers and purchases. Why is it amazing? Because you can say goodbye to interest on purchases or balance transfers made with this card until 2019!

Similar to the Citi® Simplicity above, there is a 3% fee to transfer balances onto the card, but again, with such a long 0% intro APR period, it’s still a no-brainer.

Another great benefit is after the introductory APR period is over, the ongoing interest rates are very reasonable and since it has no annual fee, it’s a worthwhile addition to your wallet.

We like this card because 21-months of 0% APR is the longest introductory period offered by any card across all card brands, giving you the perfect opportunity to finance a large upcoming purchase or pay down existing debt.

Chase Slate®

Credit needed: Good, Excellent (690-850)

If you’re looking for a great card that will NOT charge you a fee to transfer your balance from your current card(s) to a new card, the Chase Slate® could become your new BFF.

With this card, pay 0% fee for balance transfers completed without the first 60 days of opening your account, which means you can transfer large amounts of balances from cards with high APRs to the Chase Slate® without spending a dime on fees. The average balance transfer fee is 3% across the industry!

You’ll also enjoy 15-months of 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers - not quite as long as the Citi® cards above, but still a really generous amount of time and with no fees whatsoever!

We really like that this card combines a fairly lengthy 0% intro APR period with no annual fee and no balance transfer fees for the first 60 days. It’s a perfect jumpstart for paying down debt!

Citi® Double Cash Card - 18-month BT offer

Credit needed: Good, Excellent (690-850)

A credit card that combines a lengthy 0% intro APR on balance transfers and cash back rewards? This winner of a card doesn’t come around too often.

With the Citi® Double Cash Card, you’ll get just the right mix of help paying down your existing debt with 18-months of interest-free payments and earning cash back on new purchases.

Translation: There’s a lot to love about this card!

While it does have a 3% fee on balance transfers, the cash back rewards are where this card truly shines. Use it to make purchases and earn cash back twice - 1% when you make a purchase and another 1% when you pay for it - making it an ideal choice for large purchases you may not be able to pay off for a while.

Still need convincing? You’ll also get monthly access to your Equifax FICO® score to help track your credit and pay no annual fee.

Discover it® - 18-month BT offer

Credit needed: Fair, Good, Excellent (650-850)

If you’re impressed by the cards above but are still looking for something more, the Discover it® card packs a big punch.

This standout card combines an outstanding 18-month 0% intro APR period on balance transfers with major cash back rewards. Balance transfers do incur a 3% fee similar to some of the cards above, but you’ll also receive 6-months of 0% intro APR on purchases and your free TransUnion FICO® Score each month.

Unlike the Citi® Double Cash Card, the Discover it® cash back rewards has rotating categories that could earn you up to 5% cash back in certain categories throughout the year (up to $1,500 per quarter) and 1% back on all other purchases. Some of the most recent 5% back categories have included: Amazon.com, gas, restaurants, wholesale clubs, and department stores.

The takeaway? This is a fantastic card for anyone looking to pay no interest until later next year, pay down existing debt, and earn incredible cash back rewards on new purchases. Oh, and did we mention there’s no annual fee? Yes, it really is that awesome.
